The silent nature of free diving combined with 20 years of spearfishing experience gives me the ability to find & get close to many shy, rarely seen species, which are usually difficult to approach. My obsession is to capture ocean life from a unique perspective, as I join elusive shoals and swim side by side with otherwise misunderstood creatures.
My love for the sea started at a very young age.
Gully hopping with a small bamboo rod I soon developed a hunger to know what the world looked like on the other end of the line.
The beauty of free-dive filming is that you are not restricted by bulky equipment or by the amount of dives you can do in a day. Larger areas can be covered while achieving depths of over 35m if you are at the top of your game. With this said, scuba diving most definitely has it's advantages, but free-diving I believe, is a stealthier approach which bears witness to more natural behavior in fish.
For the most part I have worked on Sport Fishing productions, Wild Fly, ESA, Big Fish Safaris to name a few.
As an experienced angler, filming underwater in the Fishing entertainment industry has afforded me many opportunities, but my true passion remains the ocean creatures in their natural state.
To this I can add that I am the 2009 SA National Spearfishing Champion and have just released a DVD called Spearvision under the Rubber Scales banner, which is a journey into the nature of Spearfishing and all of it's technicalities. The aim of the film was to shed some positive light on this very selective form of fishing, which has been very well received across the board.
Rubber Scales Productions has in the planning stagers of a number of extreme free-diving adventures, so watch this space for regular uploads.
If you'd like to capture your own fishing or diving adventures, Rubber scales has the eye to turn your project in mind into a video in hand.
